The practice of social work focuses on more than day-to-day patient assessment. The social work profession is committed to social justice. Social workers fight for oppressed communities and marginalized individuals, often forgotten about by society.
One Of the most influential social workers selected for today’s interview is HITENDER KUMAR, who has worked for those affected by social disadvantages, such as poverty, abuse, illness, disability, or social injustice. If you’re thinking of becoming a social worker or working in a Ngo sector, you are reading a true inspiration.
“Tell me about yourself”
‘I’m a really caring and compassionate person, who has always been interested in social work. I started my own Youth Based NGO namely “YOUNGLINKS’’ in a small-town Shimla at a very young age and then pursued this interest at the United Nations level. During my undergraduate course, I worked in a local NGO “ALMIGHTY BLESSINGS” who serves Free langar at Civil Hospitals in Shimla District. This was the most rewarding experience of my career.
I developed fantastic relationships with all the people involved and am still in contact with many of them now. After my undergraduate degree, I studied social work at the postgraduate level and took placements in a juvenile detention center and on the pediatric social team within a hospital. Both of these roles challenged me to my utmost, but I ultimately emerged a more capable, experienced, and confident social worker. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities that I have been afforded. I’m now looking for a role that allows me to use the skills I’ve developed.’
“Why have you chosen social work as a career?”
Social work is extremely important. I’ve always been interested in helping people, and for me, the value of helping others to improve their lives surpasses any monetary gain. So, on a personal level, I have spent large portions of my childhood in contact with social workers who have changed my life for the better. I would not be where I am today without their support and guidance, and this has absolutely inspired me. So, every time I read a negative media portrayal of the social sector, I think back to my own experiences; and how I want to help disprove the negative stereotypes associated with the role. Therefore, this position really means something to me.’
“What is Your Message for Today’s Youth .?
“When you try your best but you don’t succeed, when you get what you want but not what you need when you feel so tired but you can’t sleep Stuck in reverse When the tears come streaming down your face when you lose something you can’t replace could it be worse”?
This goes out to the many who got so close to their dream but had to move a step back, now. This goes out to the many who did hear their dream breaking. This goes out to the many who are trying to put up a brave front but from inside a little has shattered!
To all those people, intelligent and hard-working, brave, and determined, “your journey might have had met a comma, but it did not collide into a full stop, it’s not the end!”
Some of you might be going through inner turmoil, doubting your efforts, your dedication, and even your fate! While some others might have had got crushed! And some others have put a guard so strong, that unfazed they would’ve dusted their back and got up to start again!
In whichever state you might be in, just remember this, “You are not your successes and failures”.
No doubt this might be a hard time for you. Feel free to dwell into your sorrow. But, make sure that once you are done with it, you will only work out your future action plan. It is only when you will take the charge again, things will change.
Once your emotions have found their outlet, your rationality should step in. Try to evaluate and reflect all that went wrong, the areas that require improvement, and then start plugging these loopholes. Trust me; you are heroic enough to muster the strength to embark on this journey.
So, take cues from this and amp up your skill, because even a single step forward can make a world of difference in your personality, which you already would have seen!
Life is a learning road for everyone. No matter whether you reach at the end of the road or meet a dead-end, at least it will always be yours! For those, who have met the dead end and now they plan on to take another road, my best wishes to you! And those, who want to take a huge leap above the hurdles and still keep going, these words are for you:
High up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
If you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth
Lights will guide you home
and ignite your bones!
Have faith in yourself and go for your dream one more time! Because “koshish karne walon ki kabhi haar nahi hoti Ji”!
P.S.:- This is not at all a consolation post. People who tried but couldn’t make it, Sirs and Ma’ams you deserve every inch of respect, I believe so.
